Your Favorite Barbecue & a Side of Cornhole

Your Favorite Barbecue & a Side of Cornhole

Do you know your "Dirty Rollup" from your "Slippery Granny"?

All across the Midwest and beyond, Cornhole, Bags, Sack Toss or whatever you call the game, is growing in popularity. A similar version was first patented back in 1883, but the game as we know it today was popularized in 1974 when Popular Mechanics Magazine first published an article on how to make the boards. Since then the game spread in the midwestern regions of Chicago, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Indianapolis and Saint Louis.

Cornhole has become a staple at tailgate parties as well as backyard BBQs and gatherings. The simplistic nature of the game lends itself to the type of light-hearted competition that you would expect to find at family gatherings and friendly parties. The rules are simple. Land a bag in the hole and you score 3 points. Land a bag on the board and you score 1 point. Distance between boxes, size of bags and boards and types of cancellation scoring vary depending on where you’re playing, but the 1 and 3 pointer remains constant.

Bootleggin’ BBQ will be hosting both a friendly and a competitive cornhole tournament on Saturday October 20th for our 4-year birthday party. The competitive tournament will have a cash prize dependent on the number of entries and the friendly tournament winner will receive… free beer? More details to come!
